Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about dietitian services at The Healing Theory.
What's the Difference Between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?
+Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RD) are health professionals regulated by provincial licensing bodies who have completed extensive education, training, and certification. Nutritionists may not have the same regulated credentials. At The Healing Theory, our dietitian holds professional registration and is bound by a strict code of ethics, ensuring you receive evidence-based nutrition guidance backed by current research.
Do I Need a Referral to See a Dietitian?
+No referral is required to book with our dietitian. You can book directly online or by calling us. Some insurance plans may require a doctor's referral for reimbursement, so it's worth checking your plan details, but clinically, you can access dietitian services directly.
What Should I Expect on My First Visit?
+Your first visit includes a comprehensive nutrition assessment covering your medical history, current eating patterns, lifestyle, goals, and any dietary restrictions or allergies. You'll discuss your challenges and what you hope to achieve. Your dietitian will then develop a personalized nutrition plan tailored to your unique needs and preferences. You'll leave with clear, actionable recommendations and strategies you can realistically implement.
Is Dietitian Care Covered by Insurance?
+Yes, dietitian visits are covered by many extended health benefit plans in Canada. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend checking your specific plan details. We also offer direct billing to most major insurance carriers. We recommend confirming your coverage with your insurance provider prior to your appointment.
How Many Visits Will I Need?
+This depends on your goals, the complexity of your condition, and how quickly you're able to implement changes. Some clients see meaningful results in 3-4 visits, while others with chronic conditions may benefit from ongoing support over several months. Your dietitian will give you a realistic timeline after your first visit and will reassess progress as you go to ensure you're on track.
Can You Help With Food Allergies or Intolerances?
+Yes. Our dietitian can help you manage food allergies, intolerances, and sensitivities by identifying trigger foods, ensuring nutritional adequacy despite restrictions, and teaching you how to read labels and navigate social eating situations safely. We work closely with other practitioners at The Healing Theory if you need additional support.
What is Your Cancellation Policy?
+We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand that life happens - if you're running into a barrier getting to the clinic, call us and we'll do our best to find a solution that works for you.
