The Healing Theory
From the secretary to the therapist my experience was nothing short of fantastic. They were not only professional, but they were also welcoming, and effective. The very effective techniques of their massage therapist have done a great job at releasing the tension in my body which was affecting my lower extremities as well. I would definitely recommend this clinic.Jonathan Ekubor
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about massage therapy at The Healing Theory.
What is Registered Massage Therapy?
+Registered massage therapy (RMT) is a regulated health profession in Ontario. Our massage therapists are trained in the assessment and treatment of the soft tissues of the body - muscles, connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments - using a range of hands-on techniques to reduce pain, relieve tension, improve circulation, and support recovery. Because our RMTs are registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, their services are eligible for insurance reimbursement under most extended health benefit plans.
What Conditions Does Massage Therapy Treat?
+Massage therapy is effective for a wide range of conditions including chronic muscle tension, back and neck pain, headaches, sports injuries, TMJ and jaw pain, postural strain from desk work, anxiety and stress, repetitive strain injuries, and recovery from acute injury or surgery. It is also used as a preventive and maintenance treatment by patients who want to stay ahead of tension and stress before it becomes a problem.
What is the Difference Between a Relaxation Massage and a Therapeutic Massage?
+A relaxation massage focuses on general stress relief, promoting a sense of calm and wellbeing through flowing, rhythmic techniques. A therapeutic massage is more clinically focused; your RMT will assess specific areas of dysfunction and apply targeted techniques to address them, which may include deeper pressure, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, or joint mobilization. At The Healing Theory, all of our RMTs are trained to provide both, and your treatment will always be tailored to what you need on the day.
Do I Need a Referral to Book a Massage Therapy Appointment?
+No referral is needed. You can book directly online or by phone. If you were referred by another practitioner at the clinic, let us know at booking so your RMT has the relevant context before your appointment.
Is Massage Therapy Covered by My Insurance?
+Yes, registered massage therapy is covered by the majority of extended health benefit plans in Ontario. Because our therapists are registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, their services qualify for reimbursement under plans that include RMT coverage. We offer direct billing to most major insurers. We recommend confirming your coverage with your insurance provider prior to your appointment.
What Should I Expect at My First Massage Therapy Appointment?
+Your RMT will begin with a brief health history intake to understand your current concerns, any medical conditions, and what you're hoping to get out of the session. They will then tailor the treatment to your specific needs, discussing pressure preferences, areas to focus on, and anything to avoid. You will be appropriately draped throughout the treatment, and your comfort and boundaries are always the priority. After the session your RMT may offer recommendations for home care, stretching, or follow-up frequency.
How Often Should I Get a Massage?
+This depends on your goals. For acute injury or rehabilitation, more frequent sessions - weekly or biweekly - are often recommended initially. For general maintenance, stress management, or preventive care, monthly sessions are a common and effective rhythm. Your RMT will give you a recommendation based on your specific situation, and you can always adjust based on how you're responding.
Can I Get a Massage if I'm Pregnant?
+Yes. Prenatal massage is safe and beneficial throughout pregnancy when performed by a trained therapist. It can help with back pain, hip discomfort, swelling, fatigue, and the general physical demands of pregnancy. Let us know at the time of booking that you are pregnant so we can ensure your appointment is set up appropriately.
What is the Cancellation Policy for Massage Therapy?
+We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand that life happens - if you're running into a barrier getting to the clinic, call us and we'll do our best to find a solution that works for you.
