Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about perinatal and postnatal care at The Healing Theory.

When Should I Start Prenatal Care at Your Clinic?

+

It's never too early to start prenatal care. Many mothers benefit from beginning chiropractic care, physiotherapy, or naturopathic support as soon as they know they're pregnant. The earlier you begin, the more time we have to prepare your body for pregnancy, labour, and postpartum recovery. Some mothers even start before conception to optimize their health. Contact us to book your initial consultation.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe During Pregnancy?

+

Yes, chiropractic care is safe during pregnancy when provided by practitioners trained in prenatal care. Our chiropractor, Dr. Laura Mercuriano, has specialized training in pregnancy and postpartum care. We use gentle techniques and pregnancy-specific positioning during treatment to ensure safety and comfort for both mother and baby.

Can I See Multiple Practitioners for My Pregnancy Care?

+

Absolutely, and this is one of our greatest strengths at The Healing Theory. Our multi-disciplinary team coordinates care to ensure that your chiropractic care, physiotherapy, naturopathic medicine, nutrition guidance, and counselling all work together to support your whole health. Your practitioners communicate to make sure treatments are complementary and effective.

Do You Offer Postpartum Support for Mental Health?

+

Yes. Our registered social worker, Ellice Strikwerda, and registered psychotherapist, Chandika Makanjee, provide counselling support for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, postpartum depression, and the emotional transition to motherhood. Mental health support is an essential part of comprehensive postpartum care, and we're here to help.

How Important is Diet During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding?

+

What you eat during pregnancy and while breastfeeding is one of the most impactful things you can do for your baby's health. The nutrients you take in directly support your baby's brain development, organ growth, bone strength, and immune system. During breastfeeding, your diet continues to shape the quality of your milk and your baby's early development. Our registered dietitian, Rachel Solomon, works with expecting and new moms to build personalized nutrition plans that ensure both you and your baby are getting what you need at every stage.

Is Prenatal and Postnatal Care Covered by Insurance?

+

Coverage depends on your specific extended health benefits plan. Chiropractic, physiotherapy, naturopathic medicine, and counselling services are often covered. We offer direct billing to most major insurance carriers. We recommend confirming your coverage with your insurance provider prior to your first appointment.

What is Your Cancellation Policy?

+

We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand that life happens - if you're running into a barrier getting to the clinic, call us and we'll do our best to find a solution that works for you.
